Social Responsability

Social Responsability

Our commitment is to be a socially responsible company in practice. This means that even before the start of the construction, we cherish and work for the well-being of our team of employees, outsourced workers, service and product suppliers and, with equal importance, the communities where we seek to insert the port project.

What we seek is to make Porto Central an important driver for the social and economic development of the Southern Regions of the State of Espírito Santo and the North of Rio de Janeiro, expanding the positive impacts of the investment, especially by maximizing opportunities and local quality of life, and minimizing the negative impacts of implementation, through environmental, social and governance actions guided by the ESG – Environmental, Social and Governance concept and aligned with the United Nations Global Sustainable Goals (UN).

As initial indicators, we can point out the conduction in the creation of Social Participation Forums, bringing together institutions in a strategic consultative role for a participative management. In this space, next to Porto Central, the Public Authorities, Civil Society, Class Entities and Education and Development Institutions, will bring different points of view on social, environmental and economic aspects, will help in the planning, evaluation and formulation of proposals to promote the orderly development of the region and will have a voice to point out needs and priorities.

There are also social programs aimed at guaranteeing the prioritization of local labor force and hiring local suppliers in the Area of Direct Influence - AID (President Kennedy, Marataízes and São Francisco de Itabapoana), mapping the local scenario, offering training and qualification, monitoring the utilization rate as a goal to be pursued.

Through the Environmental Education Program, we encourage the organization of communities in associations and other groups to strengthen their representation, as well as jointly build spaces for awareness of relevant topics, for example, the prevention of transmitted diseases, women's rights and the fight against violence, the valorization of sustainable attitudes, among others.

The involvement of civil society and public authorities is one of the premises to achieve excellence in the socio-environmental management of Porto Central and compliance with the principle of socio-environmental responsibility, one of the fundamental pillars of the Company in its long-term strategic direction. Part of this drive is to encourage the use of these same premises throughout our value chain.

This whole process has been going on since the beginning of the expression of intention to install Porto Central in the region, with an incessant search to listen to traditional communities, especially those of fishing, to understand the local culture and value each aspect pointed out by the different knowledge. The objective is to build a harmonious, reliable and long-lasting relationship with all parties directly and indirectly involved with the project.

Social Governance

Porto Central has implemented, together with public and private agents, a socio-environmental governance with the objective of guaranteeing a sustainable, adequate, innovative, transparent regional socio-economic development capable of facing the challenges of maintaining Porto Central's compliance.

Since 2012, the State of Espírito Santo, the Municipality of Presidente Kennedy and Porto Central have been renewing the commitments assumed in the Memorandum of Agreement - MdA with the objective of defining cooperation actions to enable the implementation of Porto Central as a strategic project for the southern region of the state of Espírito Santo.

This MdA foresees, for example, the creation or improvement of access to roads and railways; support for the performance of socio-economic programs, such as professional training and qualification; the qualification and expansion of public services and equipment; the promotion and attraction of new enterprises, public safety and order in the use and occupation of land; the creation of small natural and urban parks; the expansion of infrastructure and sanitation services, public facilities such as schools and health posts; among other joint actions between the State of Espírito Santo, the Municipality of Presidente Kennedy and Porto Central.

In July 2017, the Parties signed the Instrument of Investiture of the Interinstitutional Commission for Monitoring the Memorandum of Agreement (CIMdA), a dynamic, collaborative and deliberative body formed by the State Government of Espírito Santo, the Municipality of Presidente Kennedy and Porto Central, with the objective of deciding and monitoring in an integrated and joint way the development of all strategic cooperation actions according to the implementation phase of the Porto Central port complex.

In this way, CIMdA is a very positive differential in the relationship between the entrepreneur and public entities and an example to be followed by other large enterprises that may be implemented in Espírito Santo lands, which, like Porto Central, must coordinate the its development with actions within the competence of the public authorities to create a balanced regional environment, with adequate public infrastructure to support all development to be brought to the region.

CIMdA works in close relationship with the Porto Central Social Participation Forums, through the Executive Secretary that coordinates the actions and proposals made in its advisory bodies, composed of three Management Committees:

  • CAMPOC - Monitoring Commission of the Socioeconomic Monitoring Program
  • CGDR - Managing Committee for Regional Development and
  • CGMD - Management Committee for the Mobilization of Labor Demobilization

The Social Participation Forums are of great importance for regional development. Through them, the participating institutions can monitor and supervise the implementation process of Porto Central, being the link between the Government, Civil Society, Class Entities, Education and Development Institutions with Porto Central.

The Forums are already in place and count with the participation of several public and private institutions in the region, providing a space for debate, planning, evaluation and formulation of proposals for the promotion of sustainable development in the area of influence of the enterprise.
