Our Story
Porto Central was conceived to bring a new port perspective for Brazil, a world-class, deep water industrial port complex with unique characteristics, capable of meeting the logistical bottlenecks and high costs that inhibit the inevitable growth of Brazil, a country with one of the world’s vastest available natural resources and strong potential for clean energy development.
The Porto Central project was introduced in 2011 by TPK Logística S.A., whose acronym stands for “Terminal Presidente Kennedy”, with the aim of developing an offshore support base with an eye on Brazil's emerging oil and gas industry.
At the same time, the Port of Rotterdam, the largest port in Europe, was invited by the Brazilian Federal Government to carry out an analysis of all ports in the country and provide its recommendations under the National Plan for Logistics and Ports (PNLP). One of the main findings of this work was the need for more investments to strengthen the port sector in Brazil.
On the occasion, the Port of Rotterdam was also invited by the Espírito Santo State Government to study the best location in the State to develop a deep-water port. The studies concluded that the port project of TPK Logística S.A. (“Porto Central”) is the most strategic location along the national and international trade route to develop a world-class deep-water port.
Furthermore, a much greater potential was identified for Porto Central than the initial scope of the project, due to its strategic location, general lack of adequate port infrastructure in Brazil and changes in the regulatory framework that allowed private ports to handle third-party cargo instead of just their own cargo.
Since then, the project has been shaped in the high standard and current dimension of today's multipurpose industrial port complex, ready to start construction like no other in Brazil. Porto Central is considered the largest industrial deep-water port complex under development in Brazil.
