  • Porto Central signs contract with Norwegian company Equinor

Porto Central and Equinor have signed a contract for oil transshipment operations at the port complex's liquid bulk terminal

Driven by the growth in oil production in Brazil, the demand for infrastructure for crude oil transfer operations between vessels (known as “Ship-to-Ship” or “STS”) is expected to increase significantly in the coming years.

With operations scheduled to begin by December 2027, Porto Central is building a modern infrastructure, with a licensed capacity for up to 1.2 million barrels of oil per day in Phase 1. The liquid bulk terminal, which began construction in December 2024, will allow the berthing of large vessels, such as Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs).

This structure will provide economies of scale, reduced logistics costs, and greater predictability and reliability in operations, resulting in greater efficiency and safety for customers.

In addition to serving oil transshipment operations, Porto Central is designed as a diversified energy hub. The complex will have infrastructure for tankstorage and handling other liquid bulk, as well as areas dedicated to the development of renewable energy projects, expanding its relevance as a strategic point for different segments of the energy sector in Brazil and in the global market.
