As part of its commitment to promoting health and well-being, Porto Central organized a discussion on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) last Tuesday, December 17th, at the Municipal School of Early Childhood and Elementary Education (EMEIEF) Barra de Marobá. The educational activity, led by nurse Monalice Gomes da Silva, gathered approximately 15 local community members and addressed key public health topics.
This initiative is part of the Environmental Education Program (PEA), a requirement of the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) as a condition of the project's environmental licensing. The program aims to raise environmental and social awareness in communities impacted by Porto Central's operations, aligning with sustainable development guidelines.
During the session, Monalice, who serves as the STI reference technician for the municipality of Presidente Kennedy, provided information on prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of sexually transmitted infections. The discussion also created a space for addressing questions, focusing on encouraging safe practices, and raising awareness about the importance of preventive health care.
The initiative seeks to promote social inclusion and well-being among neighboring communities, improving local quality of life. The goal is to ensure that communities have access to accurate information and the guidance needed to take care of their health safely and proactively.
The Environmental Education Program includes regular activities such as lectures, workshops, and educational meetings covering topics on health, the environment, and citizenship. These events are conducted in partnership with experts and community representatives, fostering dialogue and integration between the project and the populations affected by its activities.
