Details of Porto Central and its Environmental Programs marked the beginning of the first meeting of leaders promoted by the Environmental Education Program – PEA of Porto Central.

With the presence of leaders and residents of the region, especially Presidente Kennedy (ES), Marataízes (ES) and São Francisco do Itabapoana (RJ), the first meeting of the Environmental Education Program – PEA of Porto Central was successfully concluded in last Saturday (04/06) at the Municipal School of Early Childhood and Elementary Education Pluridocente Barra de Marobá (EMEIF), in Presidente Kennedy. The meeting aimed to raise awareness and motivate the community in general, community leaders and productive associations in the port's area of ​​influence to actively participate in the actions and Sustainability Groups of the Environmental Education Program – PEA of Porto Central.

During the event, Porto Central presented in detail its project and how the initial phase of the port will be implemented, including the schedule, infrastructure to be built to receive the first port terminal and the logistics chain and use of inputs, with a focus on Direct Impact Area that comprises the Municipalities of Presidente Kennedy and Marataízes (ES) and São Francisco do Itabapoana (RJ). The impacts and interventions that will be made in the area to carry out this first phase were also clarified, with ground works scheduled to begin in the second half of the year.

Another highlight was the presentation of the current panorama of the socio-environmental management of the project in compliance with the environmental conditions of pre-installation of the port, which was initiated prior to the actual beginning of the interventions. Currently, most of the Socioeconomic Programs are in the execution phase and are monitored according to the strategic planning of the Porto Central Environmental Management Program (PGA), which aims to perfectly execute the commitments agreed with the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) in licensing the installation of Porto Central, including the commitment to listen to people who live in the region, who have practical knowledge.

In the search for improving the management of socioeconomic impacts and future opportunities generated in the region with the implementation of Porto Central, the invitation to communities that are not yet formally organized was reinforced to organize themselves and guarantee their rights to participation and voice by integrating the Social Participation Forums, which take place through the Socioeconomic Monitoring Monitoring Committee (CAMPOC); the Monitoring Committee for the Regional Development Support Program (CGDR); and the Monitoring Committee for the Labor Mobilization and Demobilization Program (CGMD).

Porto Central highlighted that the hiring of labor and suppliers of goods and services will take place with the start of works. The companies that will participate in the construction of Porto Central will prioritize hiring local workers and suppliers. Professional qualification training will be offered according to the demands of each phase of the work, through the construction of partnerships with specialized companies and support from local communities, which will help Porto Central to recognize the offers and the profile of the workforce and of local suppliers looking for opportunities.

The issue involving the Fishing Activities Compensation Program (PCAP) and the Fishing Landing Monitoring Program (PMDP), with broad participation of local fishermen, despite having been presented during the meeting, was clarified that it will be discussed in a specific forum.

In the second part of the meeting, two lectures drew attention to the topic of sustainable development and the importance of representation.

The professor and environmental consultant in the areas of environment and environmental education, Walter Có, in his lecture “Environment and Sustainability and Environmental Health”, brought reflection on the need for everyone to prepare for the development that must come along with growth to be sustainable, guiding the search for information and qualifications from entities such as Sebrae to those who have a vocation for entrepreneurship.

The lecture “Strengthening Identity Ties. Collectives and Network” by the specialist in environmental education and professor at Ifes – Campus de Alegre – ES, doctor Marcos Antonio Sattler, the message was strong in relation to belonging and valuing the region where one lives. They awakened in the participants the need to get involved in decision-making that will be collective, and to organize themselves to participate in the decision-making process that will be extremely important for the future.
